Wow.. a supercharged gen2..last time i wrote about a DIY Turbocharged Proton Gen2 and this time i'll reveal you a gen2 with a DIY supercharger. Superchargers and Turbochargers A supercharger is any device that pressurizes the air intake to above atmospheric pressure. Both superchargers and turbochargers do this. In fact, the term "turbocharger" is a shortened version of "turbo-supercharger," its official name. The difference between the two devices is their source of energy. Turbochargers are powered by the mass-flow of exhaust gases driving a turbine. Superchargers are powered mechanically by belt- or chain-drive from the engine's crankshaft. Unlike belt-driven superchargers, turbos rely on otherwise wasted exhaust energy for motivation. Right off the bat, the absence of belt-drive parasitic losses means that turbo engines enjoy a 10 to 15 percent power advantage over similarly boosted supercharged engines.
